EFFECTS OF PERICONCEPTUAL FOLATE ON COGNITION IN CHILDREN OF WOMEN WITH EPILEPSY: NEAD STUDY

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of the article by Meador et al, the participant should be able to:
  • Discuss the relationship between cognition, measured at various time points and assessed by the Full Scale Intelligence Quotient (FSIQ), and exposure to periconceptual folate in children of women with epilepsy observed in this study
  • Identify specific areas of cognitive and neuropsychological assessment where periconceptual folate exposure was associated with benefit when tested at age 6 in this study
  • Describe how any benefits of periconceptual folate exposure were impacted by the specific type of antiseizure medication used during pregnancy in this study
