HYPOGLOSSAL NERVE STIMULATION ON SLEEP AND LEVEL OF ALERTNESS IN OSA: A PRELIMINARY STUDY

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of the article by Philip et al, the participant should be able to:

  • Describe changes in the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) before and after implantation of a hypoglossal nerve stimulator in this cohort of patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
  • Describe changes in nocturnal sleep architecture seen following implantation of a hypoglossal nerve stimulator in this study of patients with OSA
  • Discuss the observed relationship between hypoglossal nerve stimulation intensity and subject alertness as measured by latency on the maintenance of wakefulness test
