SEIZURES AS ADVERSE EVENTS OF ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of the article by Sutter et al, the participant should be able to:

  • Recognize that some antimicrobial agents have been associated with symptomatic seizures
  • Recognize that knowledge of seizures as adverse events is important for individual risk stratification, and that avoidance of certain antibiotics may not always be possible due to the emergence of antibiotic resistance
  • Discuss the findings from this systematic review of antibiotic classes and analysis of contributing risk factors to help guide clinicians
